I think it goes well with your designs and sweetens up the page.
There is that first moment when it's all you see before the rest comes online, but I don't think it made the page load any slower.

This one's too busy-- but I like the blue background for the text. I liked the pink (looked like AMH!) but it loaded funny and all I saw for a while was pink fans.
Yeah, I know what you mean. When you first load up the page, it's a bit overwhelming!
I liked the pink too, but it seemed a little bit too much to me! I'll keep experimenting!
